Substance Supports in Neighbourhoods Accessed through Police Partnerships (SSNAPP) is continuing to enhance community safety and support areas affected by substance use.

The Windsor Essex Community Safety & Well-Being (CSWB) Plan has partnered with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) through their Windsor-Essex Community Opioid and Substance Strategy, and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), to make Essex County a safer place for everyone to live, work, and visit through this initiative.

Through this initiative, various activities are well underway, including the development of County Neighbourhood Safety Plans and the hosting of various training workshops.

To date, we celebrate the following milestones that have been achieved:

Hosted two "Trauma-Informed Care – Building a Culture of Strength" Workshops through the Crisis & Trauma Resource Institute (CTRI)

The Crisis & Trauma Resource Institute (CTRI) facilitated two SSNAPP-sponsored workshops where five key principles to integrate a trauma-informed approach were explored and discussed. This training was provided to frontline social service and health care professionals on the value of trauma-informed workplaces.

Hosted an "Addictions and Mental Health" Workshop through the CTRI

Facilitated by the CTRI, training was provided to frontline social service and health care professionals on strategies for complex issues. The workshop provided its participants with a framework for assisting people to move forward with healthy ways of coping.

    Hosted a "Wellness Strategies for Helping Professionals Workshop" Workshop through the CTRI

    The CTRI facilitated a SSNAPP-sponsored workshop that helped its participants identify personal stress factors and introduce them to practical methods for successfully managing stress.

    Hosted a "De-Escalating Potentially Violent Situations" Workshop through the CTRI

    Training on de-escalation techniques was facilitated by the CTRI and completed with frontline social service and health care professionals. This workshop taught participants how to de-escalate potentially violent situations through assertiveness and interpersonal communication. SSNAPP aims to promote a safer community for all through these workshops.

    Developed Neighbourhood Safety Plans for Leamington and Essex

    Neighbourhood Safety Plans have been developed for Leamington and Essex. These Neighbourhood Safety Plans are designed to offer guidance for scenarios that may arise in your neighbourhood. They include the following:

    • Crucial resources, including mental health, substance use, and housing resources
    • Who to call during emergency or non-emergency situations
    • Tips for various situations if you feel safe and comfortable to help, for example, if someone is experiencing a mental health or substance-use crisis
