Windsor Archaeological Management Plan (WAMP)
The Windsor Archaeological Management Plan (WAMP) 2024 Update is now complete. The project was launched in November 2020 with Archaeological Services Inc. (ASI) engaged as the archaeological consultants to lead the project and Fisher Archaeological Consulting (FAC) as sub-consultants. The Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism regulates the practice of archaeology and was consulted throughout the project. The 2024 WAMP Update was formally adopted by City Council on July 22, 2024, after a fulsome exercise of modelling the archaeological potential, reviewing of related legislation, and consulting with Indigenous and other stakeholders. The 2024 version replaces the original 2005 WAMP to identify and conserve archaeological resources throughout the City boundaries.
The corresponding Official Plan Amendment No. 181 to enable implementation of the 2024 WAMP Update for identification and conservation of archaeological resources was approved on October 4, 2024, by the Declaration of the City Clerk, pursuant to Section 17 (28) of the Planning Act.
