East Marsh Pumping Station Upgrades Project

Project Overview

As part of the implementation of the Sewer and Coastal Flood Protection Master Plan (SMP), the City of Windsor has commenced the East Marsh Pumping Station Upgrades Project at 10864 Riverside Drive East. This initiative is a critical component of a city-wide effort to mitigate flooding and enhance storm protection for residents during extreme weather events.

This Project Includes:

  • New outfall piping and structure to accommodate higher lake levels driven by climate change
  • Modernizing mechanical and electrical components
  • Installation of redundant large-capacity pumps
  • Installation of a small pump to manage dry weather flows and alleviate system surcharge
  • Installation of a new backup generator
  • Additional site improvements

The project is funded in part by the Government of Canada through the Disaster and Mitigation Adaptation Fund (DMAF) program.

Key Project Milestones:

  • New Pumping Station Commissioning: October 2026 
  • Substantial Completion: November 2026

Project Status:

  • Construction Progress: 50% complete

Work Completed to Date:

  • Demolition
  • New outfall structure placed
  • New outfall piping

Potential Disruptions and Impacts:

Residents and businesses near the project area may experience temporary noise, dust, and traffic changes due to ongoing construction activities. Below are key phases and their expected impacts:

  1. Closure of Riverside Dive East to accommodate installation and removal of bypass piping:
    • Additional mud or dust from construction operations
  2. Diversion of Ganatachio Trail: 
    • Pedestrian access is being maintained. Be aware that pedestrians and traffic may not be crossing in the exact same locations as typical.
  3. Existing Pumping Station Upgrade (May 2026 to October 2026):
    • Possible noise and dust
  4. Site Works and Landscaping (November 2026):
    • Installation of a new access driveway and landscaping improvements
