Woody Invasive Species Control in the Ojibway Prairie Complex
Thanks to support from the Invasive Species Centre, the City of Windsor is amplifying efforts to control invasive woody species in tallgrass prairie and oak savanna ecosystems within Spring Garden Natural Area, Tallgrass Prairie Heritage Park, Ojibway Park, and Black Oak Heritage Park.
Weather permitting, the work will begin as early as November 24, 2025, and continue throughout the winter months, but not beyond March 15, 2026. This public notice is in accordance with the Natural Resource Management exception to the cosmetic pesticide ban that affects the Parks Department.
Species included in the targeted control efforts are autumn olive, honeysuckle species, European buckthorn, and tree-of-heaven. Methods will follow the Best Management Practices for each species and include direct and targeted application of the Credit ® Xtreme (product # 29888), containing the active ingredient glyphosate and registered under the Pest Control Products Act (Canada). This product is not sprayed; it is directly applied to cut stumps and soaks in quickly (approximately 30 minutes).
No closure of any park or trail system will be necessary; however, park users are asked to stay on the authorized trail and keep pets leashed at all times.
