Windsor Bi-Weekly Garbage Collection and Weekly Green Bin Pickup Begin the Week of October 21, 2025
The City of Windsor is reminding residents that starting the week of October 21, 2025, a new waste collection schedule will take effect. As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and waste diversion, garbage collection will move to a bi-weekly schedule, while organic waste will be collected weekly through the new Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA) Green Bin Program.
These changes take effect as of Tuesday, October 21, 2025, and apply to all properties currently following the City of Windsor’s residential curbside collection calendar.
“We’re excited to launch this next phase of Windsor’s sustainability efforts,” said Jim Leether, Senior Manager of Environmental Services. “Weekly green bin collection will help residents divert food and organic waste from landfills while bi-weekly garbage pickup encourages smarter sorting and less waste overall.”
Key changes:
- Garbage collection will occur bi-weekly (every other week).
- Green Bin (organic waste) collection will happen weekly.
- Yard waste collection will continue bi-weekly through November.
- Blue Box residential recycling remains bi-weekly but will change to a new single-stream system operated by GFL, which launches January 1, 2026.
Green Bins were delivered to homes over the summer and fall. Residents are encouraged to review their updated collection calendar and place bins at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on their scheduled day.
The City’s new waste collection contract with Miller Waste Systems, which began in April, includes modern trucks and expanded staffing to support the transition.
