Ward 2 By-Election Nominations Close Friday, September 12; Advance Voting and Election Day Around the Corner

The Ward 2 By-Election is coming soon, and the City of Windsor would like to remind residents seeking nomination that the deadline to file is Friday, September 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.

Candidates must fill out the prescribed forms, which are available in the City Clerk’s Office (350 City Hall Square West, Suite 530). A nomination filing fee of $100 applies (cash, debit, or credit card payment only).

Nominations must be signed by the candidate and filed in person or by an agent during regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday (excluding holidays), until September 11, 2025, or between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Nomination Day, Friday, September 12, 2025.

Those wishing to run for the by-election must be, at the time of nomination:

  • A resident of the city of Windsor or a non-resident-owner or tenant of land in the city of Windsor, or the spouse of such owner or tenant,
  • A Canadian citizen,
  • At least 18 years old, and
  • Not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.

Election Day

Election Day in Ward 2 is Monday, October 27, 2025. Voting hours will be 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (List of Election Day voting stations coming soon.)

Advance Voting

Advance voting will take place on Friday, October 17, and Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Campbell Baptist Church, 1821 Wyandotte Street West. Advance voting hours will be 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Who Can Vote? 

To be eligible to vote in the Ward 2 By-Election, you must be:

  • A resident in Ward 2 in the city of Windsor, or the owner or tenant of land in Ward 2 in the city of Windsor, or the spouse of such owner or tenant of land; and
  • A Canadian citizen; and
  • 18 years of age or older on Election Day, Monday, October 27, 2025; and
  • Not prohibited from voting or otherwise prohibited by law (see Municipal Elections Act)

The Following are Not Eligible to Vote:

  • A person who is serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution
  • A corporation
  • A person acting as executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity, except as a voting proxy in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act.

How Do I Vote?

Visit the Voter Info page for more information and details on how to cast your vote for this by-election. We encourage you to bring your voter notification card (arriving in the mail early October) with you to the voting station, but please note that it is not a requirement to be eligible. Eligible voters who do not receive a voter notification card in the mail can still vote. Learn more about accepted identification

Free Transit for Voters

If you are an eligible voter, you may ride the bus for free when you go to vote on Election Day or any advance voting day. Present your voter notification card to the bus driver on your way to and from voting.
