Transit Windsor Announces Launch Date for Umo
As part of Transit Windsor's ongoing work to modernize local transit services, the new Umo fare management system will launch on Monday, October 5, 2026. The system, designed to simplify the transit experience, will provide riders with more convenient and flexible ways to pay fares and access transit services.
Through the Umo mobile app, riders can reload funds, manage multiple riders under a single account, and access trip planning and real-time transit information. Riders who prefer not to use a smartphone can purchase a reloadable Umo card for $6 or continue to pay cash fare.
Community Outreach and Education Campaign
Ahead of the launch on October 5, 2026, Transit Windsor is providing riders with opportunities to learn about Umo and become familiar with the new fare system. Through a series of outreach and engagement activities, riders will have access to online resources, demonstrations, and hands-on support to help them prepare for the transition and navigate the new fare system with confidence.
Over the next seven weeks, Transit Windsor staff will engage riders across the community through outreach at transit terminals, high schools, post-secondary institutions, and community partner sites to demonstrate the new fare system and answer questions. Riders are encouraged to follow Transit Windsor on social media and visit the website for updates on upcoming events, information sessions, and opportunities to learn more about Umo.
Riders are encouraged to purchase passes and reload in smaller increments, as any unused value on current smart cards must be used by December 31, 2026, and cannot be transferred to the Umo app or card.

Quotes:
“The introduction of the Umo fare management system will help modernize infrastructure and create a smoother experience for public transit riders in Windsor. This enhancement is another example of how we are Investing Responsibly in the infrastructure, services, and supports that deliver real benefits for residents, transit users, and our community. Our fiscally responsible 2026 City budget includes a 0% municipal tax levy increase; $2.26 billion 10-year capital plan — the largest in the City’s history; and significant investments across all areas, including $5.5 million for capital investments in public transit. By also working to improve operational efficiency and creating a more accessible and convenient experience for riders, this latest initiative helps ensure Transit Windsor remains well-positioned to meet current service demands while supporting the evolving needs of residents for years to come.”
– Mayor Drew Dilkens, City of Windsor

Whether customers choose to manage their account through the app, use a reloadable card, or pay with cash, this system is designed to provide options that meet a range of needs. Our focus throughout this transition is on supporting riders with clear information, in-person assistance, and the tools they need to feel comfortable using the new system.”
