Municipal Election Nominations Closing Friday, August 21, 2026

The 2026 municipal election is coming soon, and the City of Windsor would like to remind potential candidates seeking nomination that the deadline to file is Friday, August 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.

Nominations

Those seeking nomination must fill out the prescribed forms, which are available at 350 City Hall Square West on the first floor (wickets 3 and 4) or online at www.WindsorElections.ca, by Friday, August 21, at 2:00 p.m. A nomination filing fee of $100 applies for city councillor and school board trustee candidates and $200 for mayoral candidates (cash, debit, or credit card payment only). 

Nominations must be signed by the candidate and filed in person or by an agent.

Nominations may be filed:

  • During regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, until Thursday, August 20, 2026; or
  • Between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Nomination Day, Friday, August 21, 2026.

Appointments are strongly encouraged and can be made by calling 519-255-6100 ext. 6285.

Eligibility

Those wishing to run for election must, at the time of being nominated, be:

  • A resident of the City of Windsor or a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the City of Windsor, or the spouse of such owner or tenant,
  • A Canadian citizen,
  • At least 18 years old, and
  • Not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.

Voter Information

The municipal election will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Information about polling locations and advance voting dates is available at www.WindsorElections.ca.

Residents should receive an elections brochure by mail in early September and their voter notification card by mail in early October.
