Mental Health Initiative “Reboots” in Charles Clark Square
Wellness Wednesdays, also known as Walking Wednesdays, part of the Sole Focus Project for mental health awareness, are back for another season in downtown Windsor!
“Engaging in physical activity in nature is some of the best medicine for our mental health; it nourishes our bodies and revitalizes our spirits,” says Canadian Mental Health Association - Windsor-Essex County Branch (CMHA-WECB) Chief Executive Officer Nicole Sbrocca. “The CMHA-WECB is pleased to be part of Wellness Wednesdays, where we enjoy both the mental and physical benefits.”
Wellness Wednesdays started eight years ago to encourage employees of Caesars Windsor and the City of Windsor to take a healthy fitness break during their workday. Participants enjoy a 1-kilometre walk through the downtown along the riverfront and back to work, and teal is the colour of choice to show support for the effort.
“Fitness has always been a part of my life, so I know firsthand the benefits being active provides for both mind and body,” said Ward 3 Councillor Renaldo Agostino. “Having City staff and all the other agencies downtown walking is good for them both physically and mentally, and good for our core too, so please keep walking every day.”
The walk has grown over the years, with the University of Windsor, St. Clair College, Windsor Police Service, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services, and Windsor Public Library all taking part.
