Mental Health and Wellness Initiative Celebrates 10 Years in Charles Clark Square

Published

Wellness Wednesdays, also known as Walking Wednesdays, are back for another season in downtown Windsor as part of the Canadian Mental Health Association Windsor-Essex County’s Sole Focus Project for mental health awareness.

Wellness Wednesdays were created ten years ago to encourage employees of Caesars Windsor and the City of Windsor to take a healthy fitness break during their workday. Participants enjoy a 1-kilometre walk through downtown along the riverfront and back to work, and teal is the Sole Focus colour of choice to show support for the effort.

The walk has grown over the years, with the University of Windsor, St. Clair College, Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, Windsor Police Service, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services, and Windsor Public Library all taking part.

Walks will continue each Wednesday throughout the month of May. Each walk starts at Charles Clark Square and incorporates the beautiful scenery along the riverfront trail. The group will depart at 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on May 13, 20, and 27, 2026.

See you there!

Quotes:

“It’s remarkable to see the Wellness Wednesdays initiative reach a decade in our community. This home-grown campaign is good for both mind and body, which work in lockstep to keep us healthy, active, engaged, and connected. For ten years, we have been proud to see City of Windsor employees join with their counterparts from across several key organizations in our community, to walk together in support of physical and mental wellbeing, and to help Strengthen the Core in Downtown Windsor. More than ever, it is important that we take the time to regroup and refresh to navigate the challenges and leverage the opportunities that we encounter every day. Sincere thanks to the organizers, partner organizations, and everyone participating in one of these walks this year.”
— Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens

“In Windsor-Essex, we know that connection is at the heart of strong mental health. While technology helps us stay in touch, it can’t replace the impact of real, human interaction. This Mental Health Week, we’re encouraging everyone to come together — whether it’s through a walk, a conversation, or simply showing up for one another — because those moments of connection truly make a difference.”
— Nicole Sbrocca, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Canadian Mental Health Association, Windsor-Essex County Branch (CMHA-WECB)

"Caesars Windsor is proud to once again support the Canadian Mental Health Association and walk with the downtown core community. This walk gives us the opportunity to promote mental health education, awareness, and support for our Team Members."
— Jody Brown, Senior Vice-President & General Manager, Caesars Windsor

“St. Clair College is proud to once again support the Sole Focus Project Wellness Walk in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association and our downtown community partners. — Tal Czudner, CEO Windsor Detroit Borderlink, Windsor-Detroit Tunnel Corporation

“Police work is demanding and can take a significant toll on our members. Access to mental health supports is essential, given their regular exposure to critical incidents and traumatic events. It is encouraging that first responder mental health is now part of everyday conversation. Initiatives like the Wellness Walk help reinforce that commitment in a simple and meaningful way.”
— Chief Jason Crowley, Windsor Police Service

“Windsor Fire and Rescue Services is proud to support Canadian Mental Health, and we are honoured to stand with our community to champion mental health and highlight the importance of wellness for everyone.”
