Grade 4 Students Learn Tips on Bike Safety
Approximately 500 Grade 4 students from eight Windsor schools are participating in field trips to the Safety Village over the next three months, where they are learning essential safety tips and receiving bike safety training, thanks to the City of Windsor’s Active Transportation Expert Panel.
To ensure as many students as possible benefit from this valuable educational experience, transportation for the school groups is being funded through the City Bikeway Development project. This initiative is dedicated to promoting active transportation education within the community.
The Active Transportation Expert Panel collaborated with both the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board and the Greater Essex County District School Board to identify schools that may not typically have the opportunity to visit the Safety Village. As a result, twenty-two Grade 4 classes are participating in this interactive learning experience, equipping them with crucial safety knowledge.
“We are thrilled to provide students with hands-on bike safety training and general safety education,” said Kathleen Quenneville, Chair of the Active Transportation Expert Panel. “By partnering with local school boards and funding transportation, we’re ensuring that more children have access to the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe while being active.”
The Safety Village, a key partner in this initiative, offers an engaging, real-world environment where students can practice safety skills in a controlled setting. The program aligns with the City of Windsor’s ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of active transportation and road safety for all residents.
