Emergency Preparedness Week 2026: Prepared Together
Emergency Preparedness Week runs from May 3 to 9 this year. The 2026 theme across Ontario is “Prepared Together,” spreading the message that emergency preparedness is most effective when neighbours, community groups, municipalities, and organizations work together to support one another.
Make some time to take these three easy steps:
- Prepare an emergency plan: Having a plan in place will save time and make real situations less stressful.
- Build an emergency kit: It will help you and your family stay safe until emergency responders can reach you.
- Stay informed: Keep up to date with emergency information.
Find all you need in our guides:
“Emergencies can happen without warning, but the impact they have on you and your family can be reduced with simple preparation,” said Windsor Fire & Rescue Services Chief James Waffle. “Taking a few steps today can make a critical difference when seconds count.”
911 is for life-threatening or urgent emergencies. Who do you call for non-emergency concerns?
Every second counts when an emergency strikes. Calling 911 for non-emergencies can block someone in a real crisis from getting help. Help us help you and clear the line! 911 is for emergencies.
We would like to remind the community of the following non-emergency lines:
- Windsor Police Service non-emergency line at 519-258-6111
- Windsor Fire & Rescue Services non-emergency line at 519-258-4444
You can also contact 311 to report City of Windsor service issues.
Stay Informed:
It is important to have access to the most up-to-date information. The alert service is free, and it provides updates, warnings and instructions during times of crisis, directly to you, on any electronic device(s) you register. Non-residents who work in Windsor are also encouraged to sign up using their work addresses. You can register for the City of Windsor’s “Windsor Alerts” online or contact 311.
You can also stay informed by following Windsor Fire & Rescue Services and the City of Windsor on social media. Find links to our channels on our websites, www.WindsorFire.com and www.CityWindsor.ca.
