City of Windsor Named Finalist for Economic Developers Council of Ontario Awards of Excellence

Published

The City of Windsor has been named a finalist for the Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) Awards of Excellence in the Business Attraction & Retention – Urban category for 2025.

The EDCO Awards of Excellence recognize outstanding achievements and innovative practices in economic development across Ontario. Being named a finalist is a testament to Windsor’s leadership, vision, and impact in advancing business attraction and retention, setting a benchmark for communities province-wide.

This recognition celebrates Windsor’s successful attraction of Minth Group’s first Canadian manufacturing facility — a transformative $300 million investment that brings 1,099 new jobs and a major boost to Windsor’s rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) supply chain.

Amid global trade uncertainty, Windsor led an 18-month, all-hands “Team Windsor” effort — uniting City departments with Invest WindsorEssex, Invest Ontario, and the Province of Ontario — to deliver a seamless, one-window experience that gave Minth the confidence to invest here.

Key Outcomes

  • Development of a one-million-square-foot EV-focused manufacturing campus
  • Activation and transformation of 54 acres of airport land for advanced industrial use
  • Announcement of a second facility through a joint venture with AISIN Corporation
  • Strengthening of Windsor’s position as a national leader in EV and advanced manufacturing

Guided by the strategic direction of the Mayor and City Council, this collaborative approach has become a cornerstone of Windsor’s foreign direct investment (FDI) strategy. The project stands as more than just an investment — it exemplifies how purposeful teamwork, speed, and delivery excellence can attract global partners and fuel transformative economic growth for the region.

Windsor continues to emerge as a dynamic hub for investment, innovation, and sustainable economic growth. To learn more about Windsor’s competitive advantages, and investment environment, visit DiscoverWindsor.ca.
