City of Windsor Gears Up for National Trail Care Day

As part of a nationwide effort to preserve and enhance the world’s longest trail network, the City of Windsor is excited to announce its participation in Trail Care Day, happening June 1, 2024, on the city’s waterfront. 

Trail Care Day is a national event supported by Trans Canada Trail, the organization that stewards and maintains Canada’s 28,000-kilometre trail network. The event, held on International Trails Day, calls on trail groups and volunteers across Canada to take part in a local trail care activity and leave their mark on the Trans Canada Trail. 

Trail Care Day is taking place locally at Dieppe Park, 70 Riverside Drive West, and will include a number of booths and activities. Everyone is welcome to attend! 

“Trail Care Day embodies the spirit of grassroots stewardship. Communities can shape their local trail experience while contributing to the collective preservation of Canada’s iconic trail network,” says Meghan Reddick, Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Trans Canada Trail. “There's something extremely special about a national effort to care for the Trail that connects us all.” 

Windsor is proud to be part of this national collaboration to steward the Trans Canada Trail and invites community members to join in the effort. 

“With Trans Canada Trail and the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority having recently announced that the Gordie Howe International Bridge will become the first international border crossing within the 28,000-kilometre trail network, it’s exciting for our community to join in this celebration of Trail Care Day and International Trails Day,” says Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. “Windsor boasts more than 174 kilometres of multi-use trails, including 6 kilometres on the waterfront, the 42.5-kilometre Windsor Loop, and 15 kilometres of woodland and prairie hiking trails at Ojibway. This initiative is another great way to celebrate our city’s commitment to parks and trails and their positive impact on our quality of life and our economy as we prepare to become the connecting point of a trail system that spans such a great distance and connects two nations.”
