City of Windsor Celebrates Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Investment in Climate-Resilient Stormwater Improvements at Adie Knox
The City of Windsor is pleased to announce the completion of significant improvements at Wilson Park (700 McEwan Avenue) and continued progress on the transformative Reimagined Adie Knox Herman Recreation Complex project, reinforcing the City's commitment to enhancing infrastructure, recreational opportunities, and quality of life for residents.
Over the past several years, Wilson Park has undergone a series of major new upgrades that includes a playground, a splash pad, sports courts, and a batting cage.
More recently, the parkland has received new asphalt pathways, lighting infrastructure, and drainage improvements, with new parking area and driveway extensions expected to be completed by fall 2026.
The drainage improvements include Low Impact Development (LID) features that aim to enhance stormwater management measures by strengthening climate resilience and to help protect local infrastructure. These improvements support groundwater recharge, improve water balance, reduce the risk of sewer overflows and basement flooding, and create additional usable green space by reducing the need for a stormwater pond. The project aligns with the City of Windsor's Climate Change Adaptation objectives and Sewer and Coastal Flood Protection Master Plan.
The drainage and site resiliency improvements were carried out in part with $776,000 dollars in funding from the Government of Canada through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Green Municipal Fund (GMF) Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation initiative).
The Reimagined Adie Knox Herman Recreation Complex is a cornerstone project within the City's ongoing investment in parks and recreation infrastructure. It aligns with Windsor's long-term commitment to creating vibrant, accessible, and sustainable community spaces throughout the city. Once complete, the revitalized facility and enhanced park amenities will provide modern recreational opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities while strengthening Wilson Park's role as a community gathering place.
