Listed below are signs you may encounter near local schools within the city of Windsor, including sample illustrations and descriptions of their purpose and rules for compliance.

	School Area signs are installed to provide advance warning to road users that children from adjacent schools use the road to walk along or cross. Road users need advance warning of this situation so that they are prepared to exercise caution and foresight in proceeding through these areas.
	School Zone Maximum Speed signs indicate to motorists that they must reduce their speeds at certain times because they are entering a school zone where school children are present and may be crossing the road.
	School Zone Maximum Speed When Flashing signs indicate to motorists that they must reduce their speed at certain times because they are entering a school zone where school children are present and may be crossing the road. A "When Flashing" tab sign provides advance information to drivers entering the section of road where they should expect considerable reduction in speed when the flashing amber beacons of the School Zone Maximum Speed When Flashing signs are activated.
	School Crossing signs are provided as warning signs at the actual crossing location. Supervised school crossings are implemented at specific locations close to a school where significant volumes of school children cross the road on their way to or from school. These could be yellow or blue in colour.
	School Crossing Ahead signs are provided as an advance warning of the school crossing. These could be yellow or blue in colour.
	Playground Ahead signs provide advance warning of a locally designated playground that is located adjacent to a downstream section of road. The presence of children on or near the road travelling to or from the playground may present an unexpected hazard to motorists unless they are warned in advance by the Playground Ahead sign.
