Crime Prevention Week at Devonshire Mall

From November 3 to 7, 2025, law enforcement and service providers set up information booths at Devonshire Mall to discuss crime prevention and public safety with residents in honour of Crime Prevention Week. Crime Prevention Week showcases the successful collaborative efforts between police services and community organizations as we work towards the common goal of preventing crime and creating safe, resilient communities across Ontario. This year's theme is "Working Together to Protect Ontario."
City of Windsor representatives set up a Windsor Essex Regional Community Safety & Well-Being Plan (the Plan) booth to promote and spread awareness of the Plan while promoting Priority #2, “Engaged & Safe Communities.”

Two-Day Crime Prevention through Environmental Design Training Course

From October 28 to 29, 2025, the Plan sponsored a two-day training course to share the concepts and principles of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED). This two-day training course was facilitated by Windsor Police Service Director of Planning & Physical Resources Barry Horrobin, who is a CPTED expert. Participants learned how to prevent opportunities for crime, changed the way they see and use their neighbourhood, and learned personal safety tips. Participants also actively participated in both a sample Neighbourhood Safety & Crime Prevention Walk on the second day of the workshop and by carrying out a small group assessment of a neighbourhood space to apply CPTED concepts.

CPTED training courses align with Priority #2 of the Plan, “Engaged & Safe Communities.”
Neighbourhood Safety & Crime Prevention Walks

Throughout June and November, the Plan partnered with local law enforcement for Neighbourhood Safety & Crime Prevention Walks in Kingsville, Lakeshore, and LaSalle. Residents learned how to prevent opportunities for crime, changed the way they see and walk through their neighbourhoods, and learned personal safety tips. Neighbourhood Safety & Crime Prevention Walks align with Priority #2 of the Plan, “Engaged & Safe Communities.”

Empowering Voices: Youth Leading Change Symposiums

On February 26, 2025, the Regional Crime Prevention Council (RCPC) hosted the Youth Symposium entitled Empowering Voices: Youth Leading Change for grades 7 to 10 students at St. Clair College Centre for the Arts in Windsor. Dartis Willis, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Windsor Express Basketball Team; and Antonio Davis, a Windsor Express player, delivered motivational speeches. Windsor Express players supported students in the creation of a "Kindness Mural."
On April 2, 2025, the RCPC hosted a second Youth Symposium for grades 7 to 10 students at the Canadian Transportation Museum & Heritage Village in Kingsville. Educator and activist Jermaine Jackson delivered a motivational speech. Students left positive messages on the "Lead the Change Mural" throughout the day.

At both events, students attended workshops on various important topics, such as online safety and mental health, and service providers throughout Windsor-Essex provided information and resources to youth.
The RCPC is an initiative of the Plan. The RCPC and this symposium align with Priority #2 of the Plan, "Engaged & Safe Communities."

Trauma-Informed Care – Building a Culture of Strength Workshops

On January 31 and November 21, 2025, the Crisis & Trauma Resource Institute facilitated Substance Supports in Neighbourhoods Accessed through Police Partnerships (SSNAPP)–sponsored workshops where five key principles to integrate a trauma-informed approach were explored and discussed.
The Plan has partnered with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) through their Windsor Essex Community Opioid Substance Strategy, and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), to make Essex County a safer place for everyone to live, work, and visit. Learn more at the SSNAPP website.
SSNAPP aligns with Priority #3 of the Plan, “Mental Health & Substance-Use Supports.”
