Hazardous Materials Release
A hazardous material is defined as a substance (gas, liquid or solid) capable of creating harm to people, property and the environment, e.g. materials that are flammable, toxic, etc.
A hazardous material emergency is defined as an incident wherein lives or property are threatened by an accidental release of a hazardous material/substance, or other controlled material as may be defined by the Environmental Protection Act, R.S.O. 1990.
In the event of a hazardous material emergency you might be requested to take certain precautions such as shelter-in-place or evacuation.
