Arrange for Inspections

Step 5: Several inspections are required during construction to ensure that all work is done according to the approved plans.

The specific inspections required for your project will be indicated on the issued permit documents. Please note that inspections do not happen automatically.

It is the property owner's legal responsibility to ensure that either the property owner or their authorized agents (i.e. contractors, builders, etc.) contact the City to request your specifically prescribed inspections.

Failure to have prescribed inspections performed may result in a requirement to uncover and expose the work in order to conduct an inspection.

If the City building inspector determines during the inspection that the work does not conform to the issued building permit documents, he or she will advise (and possibly provide written notice) that the situation is to be remedied.

If the violation is serious, an order to comply and possibly a stop-work order may be issued preventing further construction until the problem is resolved.
