New Literary Exhibit Launch and Free Day at the Chimczuk Museum

Location: Chimczuk Museum, 401 Riverside Drive West
Date: Saturday, April 5, 2025
Time: 1 p.m.
Free Admission.

Join us at the Chimczuk Museum on Saturday, April 5, 2025, for the launch of a brand-new literary history exhibition curated by Marty Gervais.

The Windsor region has a long and rich literary history. A Snapshot of the Literary History of the Windsor Region, curated by Windsor’s Poet Laureate Emeritus Marty Gervais, traces the chronology of what he calls “a gallery of heroes.” The exhibition showcases early writers like steamship traveller Anna Brownwell Jameson and abolitionist Mary Ann Shadd Cary as well as famous literary luminaries from the 20th and 21st centuries like Marshall McLuhan, Joyce Carol Oates, W.O. Mitchell, Adele Wiseman, Morley Callaghan and Alistair MacLeod. The exhibit also charts the rise of the city’s literary magazines and publishing companies, some garnering such prestigious awards as the Governor General’s Award, the Trillium Book Award and the Giller Prize.

The exhibition will launch at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Join us for opening remarks from special guests, including:

  • Aimée Parent Dunn, publisher of Palimpsest Press
  • Peter Hrastovec, Windsor’s Poet Laureate
  • Mary Ann Mulhern, former Windsor Poet Laureate
  • Andre Narbonne, University of Windsor
  • Kalie Chapman, University of Windsor
  • Christopher Lawrence Menard, City of Windsor
  • Elise Gervais, Black Moss Press
  • Marty Gervais, Guest Curator and Windsor’s Poet Laureate Emeritus

Best of all, there will be free admission to the Chimczuk Museum and Art Windsor-Essex! In lieu of an admission fee, visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for donation to the Windsor Youth Centre.
